TAKE CHARGE

Go Red for the Heart, think Pink for the Breast,

Wear Blue for the Colon, now hope for the best.

You’ve donated money, you’ve worn a Red Dress,

You’ve run for The Cure, but disease is NO less.

Let’s do something new, let’s do something useful,

Let’s change what we eat. Go Veg and stay youthful.

Stop eating all meat, milk, cream and no cheese.

Eat greens, beans and fruit, whole grains if you please.

Now watch your weight go, your heart’s getting stronger.

If your colon is clean, your life will be longer.

Take charge of your health, don’t color your ills.

Eat right and be well, be done with those pills.

Go dance in the street, and strike up the band,

For good health is yours. Now isn’t life grand!*

*March is National COLORECTAL CANCER Awareness month. February focused on heart disease. Healthy eating guidelines from both the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association continue to include the consumption of animal protein (red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy) and oil as part of a healthy diet despite the overwhelming evidence that these foods dramatically increase risk for cancer and heart disease in men and women.
