Term limits would be good for Rehoboth

By Wayne Gooch | Jul 17, 2014

You cannot drive a car by looking in the rear view mirror!

I met Tom McGlone three years ago when he was knocking on doors in Country Club Estates. Over the past three years I have seen him keenly interested in the governance of Rehoboth Beach. He always asks for the opinions of others. He has asked me for my opinions. This is important to me.

This year as he runs for Mayor, I along with 15 of my downtown neighbors provided input as he developed his platform for Rehoboth Beach. As I see this year’s election only one month away I realize that Tom McGlone has a clear plan of things to work on when he is elected.

How does this compare to our current Mayor Sam Cooper? I have received a mailer from the mayor. He speaks of what he has done historically. I applaud his contributions of the past, but am very concerned about the future. If elected for another three-year term, what does Mayor Cooper plan to do over the next three years? Running on the past gives me no comfort that there is a plan for the future. Additionally 24 years in office is far too long for any elected official.

Look at our career politicians in Washington, D.C. Do you think they are out of touch with their constituents? Many downtown property owners do not even know Mayor Cooper. Mayor Cooper may have known his constituents 24 years ago, but many changes have occurred over the last 24 years.

Voting for Tom McGlone equals:

• Implementation of term limits for the City of Rehoboth Beach

• A comprehensive review of the city’s sidewalks for pedestrian safety

• A reevaluation of the $17 million dollar McMansion City Hall.

• An alternative to dumping treated waste water in the ocean.
