Thanks for allowing Dragon Boat Festival
As a full time resident of Lewes, and both a volunteer and participant in the recent Lewes Dragon Boat Festival, I wanted to provide my perspective of the event.
Although there were those in the community who questioned if our town should host an event of this size/nature I think the results speak for themselves. Both sides of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal were lined with spectators, including patrons at Irish Eyes. The inaugural event is something that Lewes can and should showcase in the future as our community embraces its maritime heritage and a healthy outdoor lifestyle.
The festival was not only about the participants, but was truly a family affair as there were folks of all ages in Lewes Canalfront Park taking advantage of one of our city's crown jewels. I want to thank the Lewes City Council for allowing the Dragon Boat Festival to happen this past year as well as acknowledge the immense amount of work that the organizers put into this unique event.
Although the soreness in my shoulder reminds me of the pain associated with paddling, I cannot wait to volunteer and participate again next year.
