'The Beach House' offers short stories set in and around RehobothBook debuts Dec. 7 at Browseabout with holiday reception
Browseabout Books in Rehoboth will celebrate the launch of "The Beach House" starting at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, with food, beer and wine, live music and free gift wrapping. The book is a compilation of 23 short, entertaining stories that take place in and around Rehoboth.
From light romps featuring jilted brides, NASCAR drivers, and flapper-era ghosts to cherished memories of boardwalk custard stands, outside showers, and summer romance, "The Beach House" has something for everyone.
“It’s a truly unique take on Rehoboth Beach,” says Browseabout Books General Manager Susan McAnelly. “We’ve never had a book quite like this in our store.” Many of the book's authors will be on hand to sign copies. The event is free and open to the public.
The title ties the stories together thematically, but each writer interpreted the topic differently. Some stories are fanciful, while others pull at the heartstrings, but they will all have readers smiling in recognition of familiar activities such as trips to Funland, visits to the Henlopen City Oyster House, drinks at the Frogg Pond, and a stop at Browseabout Books for something new to read. Maybe that is why Bob Yesbek, weekly columnist for the Cape Gazette, said the book is “the perfect escape for a rainy day or beneath a canvas umbrella on a sunny afternoon.”
The stories, submitted by some of the area’s best writers, were chosen by a panel of judges during this year’s Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Competition sponsored by Cat and Mouse Press. The 214-page story collection is available at Browseabout Books and sells for $15.95.
