Brick Hotel to host farm-driven festival Sept. 13

Admission is free
Sep 01, 2014

On Saturday, Sept. 13, The Brick Hotel on The Circle, located in Georgetown, will host its 5th Annual Farmer & Foodie Festival at The Brick property, as well as on The Circle that houses it. The festival will feature a variety of vendors and events from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and admission is free.

Brick owner Lynn Lester says the premise of this family-oriented community event is pretty simple - that being to create awareness of local food, food products, culinary talent and local artisans from the Sussex County area.

“This is such a perfect opportunity for the general public to become aware of the local product and talent that exists right in our backyards, as well as the chance to support our local artists, crafters, and the farming community,” stated Lester.

Among the many complimentary activities at The Farmer & Foodie Festival are horse and carriage rides sponsored by Dave Wilson, hay rides sponsored by Baxter Farms Inc., and pumpkin decorating sponsored by Lawson’s Produce.

The Circle will be alive with vendors of all sorts, including farmers, producers, crafters, local artists, Georgetown’s local brewery, 16-Mile, and the music of Seaford’s Double Nickels, sponsored by Kings Crop Insurance.

Fitting right into the farm to table theme is the Delaware Farm Bureau’s Ag Lab which will be offering 30-minute sessions throughout the day. These free sessions are geared for children ages 6-12, teaching them how to make healthier food choices and how food makes it from the field to their table.

The Brick Hotel On The Circle was built in 1836 and is a National Historic Registry property. It was totally restored in 2008 by owners, Lynn and Ed Lester, and now offers 14 boutique-style guest rooms, meeting, wedding and private party facilities, and a restaurant serving lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, with a breakfast buffet on Sundays.

The Brick Hotel is located at 18 The Circle. Festival inquiries can be directed to Lester or Chef Mark Buchanan at 302-856-1836.
