The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, a new museum along the James River in Richmond, Va., provides a unique look at the conflict from the perspective of Union and Confederate soldiers, as well as southern slaves.

It's also the site of the Richmond National Battlefield Park and the former Tredegar Iron Works, which operated from 1833 to 1952.
