Therman B. Miller, devoted to his church

Feb 07, 2013

Therman B. Miller, a beloved church Leader, family man, hard worker and friend to so many, passed away suddenly Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.

He was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Seaford, to the late Harry and Ann Jefferson Miller. He was married to his beloved wife, Mattie Lou Gene Miller, in Salisbury, Md. in 1968. Together they raised seven children, and became leaders of a family including 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Therman retired from Suburban Propane as a technician, and being the hard worker he always was, he took on a second career as a technician at Schering-Plough Inc. He served in many roles at his beloved church: Pentecostal Church of God of Lincoln Inc. He was a senior deacon, chairman of the board of PCOG Millsboro,  national chairman of finance for the Pentecostal Church of God, sang in the choir, was an usher, a member of Men of Faith, and a member of the combined choir, yet found time to have secular interests.

He admired Westerns so much some called him “John Wayne Jr.” He also loved sports, fishing, football, but most of all work was important to him behind his devotion to family, and the church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his seven children: Therman DuPont and wife Amanda, of Wilmington, Terrance DuPont, of New Castle, Demaris Miller, of Millsboro, Bertina DuPont, of Wilmington, Juanita Lewis and her husband Brantley of Georgetown, Charity Miller of Wilmington, and KeNisha Mullen and her husband Pastor Curtis of Frederica; brothers, Clark Miller and his wife Doris of Laurel, and Keith Miller of South Carolina; sisters Doris Collick and Joan Roberts, both of Laurel; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends.

A tribute service will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8. A funeral service will also be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, where friends may call one hour prior. Both services will be held at Pentecostal Church of God of Lincoln Inc., 9163 Greentop Road, Lincoln. Bishop Marion Hendrickson will officiate. Burial will follow the funeral at the Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
