Town of Milton to kick off comprehensive plan

May 15, 2014

The town of Milton is starting to develop its comprehensive plan and is reaching out to the community to participate in the process.

Communities across the state are required to have comprehensive plans that reflect the dreams and aspirations of each town and lay out concrete and specific guidelines that help communities make land use decisions to realize those dreams.

“While this is a statutory requirement, it also makes good sense," said Milton Mayor Marion Jones. "The process – if done correctly and with lots of community involvement – can really unite the town behind a vision that reflects the shared hopes and various perspectives of its residents. That’s what we’re hoping to accomplish here.”

The town invites residents to participate in a series of open community meetings at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20; and Monday, June 9, and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12. A meeting Wednesday, Aug. 13, is also planned at a time to be determined.

All meetings will take place at the Milton Library, 121 Union Street.

The first meeting will give residents the opportunity to learn about how the planning process will unfold and what specific issues will be covered. The subsequent public meetings will dig down more deeply into those issues.
