The Eleventh Annual Cancer Survivors Miracle Mile walk, sponsored by Beebe Healthcare's Tunnell Cancer Center, was held June 7 on the Boardwalk and at All Saints' Episcopal Church on Olive Avenue. The event, which is organized to celebrate National Cancer Survivors’ Day, began with a recognition ceremony and a presentation of the 3rd Annual Spirit of Hope Award at All Saints'. Participants then proceeded to the Boardwalk for the walk.

Rhonda Weber speaks at the ceremony at All Saints' about her experience with breast cancer. She was offered a free mammogram and found out she had stage one breast cancer. Because of her chance encounter with learning about the free mammogram she said "God has a purpose for me being around." She went on to say "I am a grateful survivor this morning." Claire Wilson, center, was surprised that she is honored with the "Miracle Mile Spirit of Hope Caregiver Award." Wilson is a patient, survivor and a caregiver. She works at the Tunnell Center, having found out about the job by attending a past Miracle Mile event. She was asked to talk at the ceremony so she asked patients at the Tunnell Center "What does hope mean to you?" One of the patients said "Hope is like a life preserver, but I have to do the swimming." Shown presenting the award are Dr. Judith Ramirez, manager of Tunnell Cancer Center Psychosocial Services and Outreach, left, and Cherrie Rich, RN, Beebe Healthcare Oncology Services executive director.
