Unitarian Universalists celebrate music June 22
Everyone is invited to join the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware for a music-filled morning as Music Director Marcie Schiff and the choir lead an exploration of beliefs through readings and song. This special service will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, June 15.
Humans actually believe a great many things and know very few. They express thoughts, opinions, judgments, convictions, or views. All of these are ways of stating what they believe. Music is often an important medium for the expression of beliefs, whether it's Gregorian chant, show tunes, or rock 'n' roll.
Unitarian Universalists in particular accept the diversity of beliefs as part of their principles. It’s important to understand that beliefs are often the foundation for and predecessors to actions.
Schiff is on the faculty at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, teaching studio voice and music education methods. She holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Delaware, master of music degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N. J. and is in the final stages of her doctoral degree at Boston University. The UUSD choir has experienced Schiff's techniques in mind-body connections in developing a truly moving and resonant sound that supports the spiritual growth of both the choir and the congregation.
UUSD has been an active member of the local community for over 15 years. The congregation provides a liberal spiritual home for people of free faith in support of their mission to nurture spiritual growth, embrace diversity, work for justice and, strive for a loving world. Visitors are welcome to attend Sunday services at 10 a.m.; childcare is available.
UUSD is at 33739 Marsh Road, Lewes, 302-645-6334, www.uussd.org.
