Police received a call at 2:18 p.m. about a man found lying in the yard of a home in the 5000 block of Williamsville Road, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
The 72-year-old man identified as Clarence L. “Pete” Short of Milford was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds to the upper torso, Fournier said.
The suspect, Lorenzo Johnson, 42, of Milford, barricaded himself inside the home; police evacuated neighboring homes during the standoff and closed local roadways.
