The Upper Crust, 7 E. Market St. in Georgetown, invites the public as it welcomes artist June Crystal Blaylock, née Evans, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Thursday, March 28.

Blaylock moved back to the Cape Region after living in California for many years. While working as a critical care registered nurse at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, she studied painting under various teachers. One teacher was David Farrington, a famous combat artist from the Vietnam War era whose work is exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute.

Besides creating landscapes, florals, animals and impressionistic paintings in oil and acrylics, she branched out into china painting, studying with Cindy T. Moore of the Art Parlour in Pomona, Calif.

Blaylock herself taught china or overglaze painting at her own gift and antique shop and has twice received awards for her porcelain doll making. Her focus now is using the overglaze painting for kiln-fired tiles and sinks as well as remembrance urns and boxes for cherished pets, painted with their likenesses.

Blaylock and her husband, Dr. Andre Blaylock, reside in Lewes. Besides painting, she also volunteers at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Georgetown.

Light refreshments will be served at the March 28 reception.  The public is invited to meet Blaylock and discuss her art with her.

Part of The Upper Crust’s commitment to the community is to offer gallery space to local artists who might not otherwise have an opportunity to show their works. Contact Bruce at bruce@theuppercrust.info or 302-856-2300 to schedule a time to stop in with images of work for approval and to possibly schedule an exhibit date. Artists will be required to sign an agreement with The Upper Crust prior to having a show and will be responsible for hanging their own works at The Upper Crust. Works of art may be offered for sale.
