Source: Submitted Welcoming participants to the 2013 ¡VIDA! event in Dover are (l-r) Sue Ryan, outreach coordinator in Sussex County; Chadeia Mitchell, education and outreach program director for New Castle County; and Nancy Lopez, bilingual navigator/Hispanic outreach in New Castle County.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, with support from the Arsht Cannon Fund, Highmark Delaware, Hoy en Delaware, and La Exitosa 930 AM radio, announces the next ¡VIDA! Multicultural Breast Health Forum will take place from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 29, at the Multicultural Church and Community Center in Milford.

The program will be free and open to the public. The timing of the forum allows community members to stop by at any point to learn about healthy living and community programs, and get to know staff members from the breast cancer coalition and other partner organizations.

The spring forum will feature free health screenings, information about breast health, and vendors from various nonprofit, health, business, and media organizations. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and goody bags will be available for the first 200 women to arrive. Food will be provided throughout the day to all attendees, along with door prizes. Preregistration for the event is not required, but attendees must call 1-888-672-9647 to register for a mammogram. A kids' corner will be available for children of all ages including a puppet show and children’s activities.

Cheryl Doucette, outreach and education program manager for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Kent County, said, “We are excited with how dynamic ¡VIDA! has become. We have held successful forums in all three counties, and we can reach even more communities to share our message of breast health and ending breast cancer.” A future ¡VIDA! is set for Saturday, April 12, in New Castle County with more information to be announced soon.

The Multicultural Church is at 105 North East Front St. in Milford and under the leadership of Pastor Richard Portalatin. The Delaware’s Women’s Mobile Health Screening Van will be on site to provide screening mammograms with a prescription from a doctor. There will also be free screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes testing, clinical breast exams, and information available for obesity and surgical weight loss. Contact Doucette at 302-672-6435 for more information.

All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
