Vote Alison Myers in Cape board election

By Jack and Joanne Cabry | May 10, 2014

On May 13 we will be voting for Alison Myers for the at-large seat on the Cape Henlopen school board. We both have life-long careers in education - 76 years total between us! We both know how important a school board is in setting the tone and establishing policies for a district. We both believe that having an educator on the board brings invaluable insight to that board.

Alison Myers was a teacher for nine years. She understands that the primary function of the Cape Henlopen District school board (like any school board) is to establish policies that are in the best interest of the students. Budgets and operational issues are certainly important, but schools exist for the education of the students. An effective board should draw members from many walks of life, but having a teacher on board makes it all the stronger.

Alison Myers also will bring other experiences to the board. Alison may have stopped teaching in order to raise her family, but she stayed involved in education. She has served as PTO secretary for two years at Shields. She is currently a member of Cape Facilities Task Force III and the Citizens Budget Oversight Committee. As an active member of these committees, Alison has acquired an understanding of the operational and budgetary aspects of Cape School District.

A vote for Alison Myers is a vote for a school board member who has been involved in public education as a teacher, parent, and citizen. She has our vote.
