We need to keep NBC 10 Philadelphia

By Kerri Wiggins | May 26, 2014

I am writing this letter in response to a letter posted in the Gazette by Dave Truitt in the May 16 edition. First, I would like to thank Dave Truitt for bringing the possible loss of Philadelphia Channel 10 to the community’s attention.

I am writing this letter to WRDE-TV as a challenge to the idea of a possible loss of NBC 10 Philadelphia. It disturbs me that we could be losing quality news reporting, weather and sports from the Philadelphia region which constantly highlights Rehoboth and Wilmington area news and has reported from the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk on a regular basis.

It is relevant news and weather, and would be a true detriment to lose.  S

alisbury area news, weather and sports is reported out of three other network affiliates - ABC, CBS and Fox. The newscasts out of Salisbury often appear limited in the region’s representation and do not highlight Wilmington area news which is of great importance to the State of Delaware.

Philadelphia sports already takes a backseat to the Salisbury-based stations, and games are often bumped to show a game that is already being seen on alternate channels. Comcast, in addition, has a Baltimore-based Channel 11 NBC station that highlights Maryland area-based sports, news and weather of Eastern Shore Maryland and Virginia as do the other networks broadcasting from Salisbury.

While I appreciate the Salisbury-based reporting, NBC 10 is the only representation of the Philadelphia/Wilmington region which assists to give this area's residents relative and alternate views in news, weather and sports.  I will not support the loss of NBC 10 Philadelphia, and I hope that others can see what a mistake this is.
