Welcome back! What’s old is new again.
And so it begins. While you weren’t looking, we’ve been sneakin’ around cooking up all sorts of new stuff for you to try here at the beach. Some of the biggest news is the transformation of the old Crab Barn / Wahoo / Timothy’s / Beachcomber building across from Tanger Seaside Outlets into the Crab House. New owners Norm and Eric Sugrue pay homage to the original Crab House that occupied the building where their flagship Big Fish Grill now stands. The new Crab House will be their fourth restaurant here in Rehoboth, and if Big Fish Grill, Summer House and Salt Air are any indication, the place promises to be a winner. They’ll be up and running in a couple of days.
Progress has been slow at the new Lula Brazil on Rehoboth Avenue in the old Cloud 9 building, but former Domaine Hudson co-owner Meg Hudson promises a tasty Latino treasure at the end of that rainbow. So we wait patiently until Meg turns the key and lets us in.
You might have noticed that the storied La La Land on Wilmington Ave. looks strangely like a vacant lot.
Well, a little bit of that long-gone splendor will soon reappear in the Food Lion shopping center, as former La La Land chef Richard Davis and his wife Michelle open Michy’s Relaxed Dining. Wait ‘til you see the décor!
Downtown is not without its seasonal shuffle, with Bricker’s Fries morphing into Shrimpy’s Snack Shack (next to Spice & Tea Exchange), Kay’s Kitchen (Kay! We barely knew ye!) becoming Otto’s Sandwich Shop and Nonna’s sweets replacing Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop on The Avenue.
At Second and Wilmington, Jay Caputo has handed over Cabo to Matt Haley, who is bringing Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria to that spot (look for a Memorial Day opening). A couple of blocks west, Flying A BBQ & Crabs is under construction next to Catcher’s Seafood, and even farther west, the Double L Bar has given way to the newly remodeled Dive where you can dance the night away.
Keep an eye on RehobothFoodie.com for grand openings and new menus! The 2014 summer season is going to be delicious.
