Whistleblower Beverly Eakman to present program on Common Core of Standards Oct. 15

Coalition demands educational reform stem from parental rights and local control
Oct 10, 2013

The Delaware Education Reform Coalition is sponsoring an eye-opening presentation by Beverly Eakman disclosing specific details on data-mining and the exact nature of national assessment and federalized curriculum under the Obama administration's Common Core of Standards.

The presentation will be held at the Elks Lodge in Dover Tuesday, Oct. 15. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the presentation begins at 6:30. Beverly Eakman will share detailed documentation on what information is to be collected and for what purpose.

As part of the Race To the Top Application, Delaware has proposed to, "Improve access to, and use of, the state’s robust longitudinal data system by creating a data portal with dashboards targeted to different stakeholder groups." How does this impact the privacy of students and families? With new changes in the Family Education and Privacy Act, parental consent is not needed to gather, nor release, information on the student.

Detailed information about students, including individual student identifiers, can now be released to third parties. Massive databases are being created to store this detailed - once protected and confidential - information gathered on students.

Delaware Education Reform Coalition maintains that parents have the right to know what type of information is being collected and to whom it is being distributed. Parents have the right and responsibility to direct the upbringing and education of their children; and the choice to participate, or opt out, of gathering and releasing of information on their children.

The Delaware Education Reform Coalition is made up of parents, grandparents, business owners and taxpayers, students and teachers, who are aligning to demand that education reform be centered on parental rights, local control and lead to better results for children.
