Woman charged following crash that killed nephew
The aunt of a 2-year-old Delmar boy who died following a car crash in November faces charges in connection with the crash.
Danielle M. Bobak, 46, of Georgetown was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, child restraint violation and driving a vehicle at an unreasonable speed. She was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $20,502 secured bond.
Bobak was driving a 2007 Subaru Legacy eastbound on Whitesville Road west of Whaley's Road near Delmar Nov. 13 when she ran off the road, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
The car struck a tree and rolled onto its side before coming to a stop, Fournier said.
Lleyton Slate was partially ejected from the car because his car seat was not properly secured, Fournier said. He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and flown to Johns Hopkins hospital where he was pronounced dead, Fournier said.
Bobak was taken to PRMC where she is in serious condition. Fournier said a preliminary investigation suggests alcohol was involved.
The roadway was closed for three and a half hours during the investigation.
