Amanda Lynch’s fourth-grade class at Worcester Prep recently took a virtual safari tour of parts of Africa. Students hopped into their Land Cruisers and set off to the Cape of Good Hope, where the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans join and the city of Cape Town sits.

While in Cape Town they went to the top of Table Mountain and spent the day on Robben Island, where South African leader Nelson Mandela was held in prison. Former political prisoners of Robben Island served as the students’ guides.

At the Nambiti Game Reserve they spotted the big five inhabitants -  leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos, and water buffalo - and many other animals as well. Nambiti is the home of the Cheetah Breeding Project, which is where efforts are being made to increase the cheetah population.

Later, the fourth-graders toured the Isandlwana Battlefields, the site of the great Anglo-Zulu Wars. Onward they traveled on the Chobe River by the border between Namibia and Botswana. They then slipped into Zimbabwe for the day to visit Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
