Workforce Opportunities Conference set for June 12 in Wilmington

Jun 07, 2013

The first Workforce Opportunities Conference, set for Wednesday, June 12, in Wilmington, will connect dozens of private- and public-sector employers from business, technology, education, government and nonprofit agencies with career-minded people seeking traditional employment, new career advancements, and entrepreneurial and small business opportunities.

The daylong event, Connecting the Dots, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Chase Center on the Riverfront; it is being hosted by the Elizabeth House Family Life Center, a local nonprofit organization that trains and equips older youth and young adults to become better prepared to pursue higher education and workforce opportunities.

Maurice Butler, founder and president of the Elizabeth House, says, “Our conference aims to connect ambition with opportunity. Contrary to consistently negative economic and employment news, there are still countless opportunities for success.”

An impressive list of national and state companies, agencies and organizations are already on board. These initial partners and sponsors of the event include private and public companies small and large, such as the Men’s Wearhouse and The Company Corporation; Delaware state agencies including the Office of Management and Budget, Health and Social Services, Department of Transportation; business and technical schools, such as Harris School of Business and Delaware Technical Community College; public and private health care providers; and recruiters from a wide range of industries.

Registration for the public is $20 for access to exhibits only and two workshops, $35 for full conference access to all workshops and exhibits. All registrations must be made in advance at events.theelizabethhouse.org.
