Writers and musicians to celebrate far side of good cheer and good will Dec. 18

Dogfish Head will be serving throughout the evening
Dec 11, 2012

The public is invited to join members of the Rehoboth Breach Writers’ Guild from 7 to 8:15 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, along with area musicians Stuart Vining, The Sergeants (Victor Letonoff and Scotty Raughly) and Kent Schoch, as writers and musicians will take turns reading and performing brief excerpts of prose, poems or songs that touch on the theme of Addictions & Obsessions.

The event is free and open to the public, and will be held at Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats in Rehoboth Beach. Although the readers and musicians sign up ahead of time, no one knows what they will read or perform, so the night is filled with surprises. RBWG Executive Director Maribeth Fischer will emcee the event.

Included in the cast of readers will be comedic writers Sarah Barnett and Paul Dyer; Cape Gazette columnist (Retirement 101) Lisa Graff; University of Delaware students Kelsey Duggan and Ryan Gross; and an assortment of others. The subject matter might touch on everything from serious addictions to the more frivolous: an obsession with collecting owls or an addiction to eating almonds. Musician Kent Schoch has written a new song for the event, while The Sergeants will perform a piece that dates back nearly 100 years. In all, there will be 18 readings or songs (each no more than about three minutes).

Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats will be serving throughout the evening. Those who plan to eat meals are encouraged to arrive ahead of time.

The RBWG also hosts four free Free Writes each week for aspiring and professional writers, a book club for writers, and ongoing classes in fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry. These events are made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
