Writers' guild offers memoir and fiction classes starting April 30

Apr 23, 2013

The Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild is offering two classes - a four-session in memoir, and a two-session in micro-fiction - for writers at all levels. The classes are both short in an effort to make it easier for those who want to try a class but aren’t ready to jump into a longer course.

Micro-fiction will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 4 and 11 at the Cultured Pearl in Rehoboth. The class will be taught by creative writing professor and award-winning published author Ethan Joella. Participants will read and discuss great examples of micro-fiction in session one, begin crafting stories, and return in session two to share their stories with the group and receive feedback. The cost is $75 for RBWG members and $85 for nonmembers.

Memoir 101 will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesdays, April 30 to May 21, in a central Rehoboth location.  It will be taught by Fay Jacobs, author of three collections of humorous essays, a regular columnist for Letters from CAMP Rehoboth and Delaware Beach Life, and the publisher of A&M Publishers. Jacobs will discuss the absolute necessity of the right beginning, what needs to be written in a scene, what needs to be summarized, and how to polish one’s work through editing a word at a time.
