Writers' guild to offer Free Writes for teens starting July 2

Jun 26, 2014

Starting Wednesday, July 2, the Rehoboth Beach Writers' Guild, in partnership with the Lewes Public Library, will offer weekly Free Writes! for teens. The Free Writes, which will run from 1 to 2:30  p.m. through July and the first week of August, are opportunities for teens interested in working with professional poets, essayists, and novelists in the guild who also have experience teaching.

RBWG founder, executive director, and novelist Maribeth Fischer, along with published and award-winning poet Gail Comorat, will be facilitating the different sessions along with guest writers.  Each week, the facilitators will offer a number of creative prompts in both prose and poetry that everyone responds to in short, timed writings. Participants are then encouraged to read out loud to the group whatever they have written. In past Free Writes, teens have come up with ideas for stories and novels, and have written poems and songs. The goal isn't to produce a polished work so much as it is to just have fun with words, to experiment with different ideas that the writers may then develop later.

For more information email contactus@rehobothbeachwritersguild.com. These sessions are free and open to any teen with a passion for writing. Participants should bring a laptop or pen and paper and be ready to write.
